AIR FRESHNERS (ODONIL TYPE)

Odor modification is the intentional change of one odor by the addition of another. The importance of the process is its usefulness as a method of odor control. Air freshners, perfumes and industrial dtodordants are examples of odor modifiers. Perfumers employ the principles of odor modification in creating fragrances. Functional fragranas are odor modifier; thus, odor modification refer specifically to use of fragrance materials for

odor control. Aerosol is one of the odor modifiers which is manufactured by somi definite company. Most aerosol products contain three mauor components : propellents, Solvents and active gradients. Depending on the manner in which these components are combined in the product, aerosols can be difided into two broad classes : homogeneous or heterogeneous. SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE

(BLEACH LIQUOR)

Prior to the development of chlorinated bleaches, the process of bleaching textiles was a long and laborious one which required several months at a minimum and did not produce the high degree of whiteness to which we are accustomed today. Goods were spread on grass fields and bleached by the sun, a process known as "crofting". A large expense in land rent and maintenance of the bleach fields thus were required, and only a few could afford the luxury of cloth bleached in this manner. In the early and middle eighteenth century, attempts were made to improve the bleaching process by steeping the goods in an alkali (bowking) prior to crofting. The practice of souring was also introduced in this period. Initially, it consisted of steeping the partially bleached goods in sour milk or buttermilk for a week and then rinsing before final crofting. About 1750, Home published his discovery that a dilute sulfuric acid sour gave better results with less than 24 hours steeping time. Even with these improvements, bleaching of linen goods required at least three months. MUSHROOM CULTIVATION AND PROCESSING

WITH AIR CONDITIONING

The use of the mushroom, that is the wild type found growing in pastures and upon lands where there is an abundance of decaying organic matter is very old. It was used by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans in their artiquity and probably much earlier. It has been observed that uncivilized tribes at present eat the same class of fungi so there is no reason to doubt but that the same thing occurred with our early ancestors. The Greeks and Romans and those who followed had to depend upon such specimens as they could find as they recognized it as a plant without seed but knew of no means for its propagation. They observed that it was most abundant in pastures and along trade routes where amimals were tethered or fed and believed it to be due to decomposition of animal or vegetable matter in the soil but that was the extent of their knowledge. DOUGH MOULDING COMPOUND (DMC), BULK MOULDING COMPOUND (BMC),

SHEET MOULDING COMPOUND (SMC)

Premix is generally known as Dough Moulding Compound (DMC), flow mix or Bulk Moulding Compound (BMC). Premix has been defined as " A fiber reinforced thermoset molding compound not requiring advancement of cure, drying of volatiles, or other processing after mixing to make it ready for use at the molding press". To this might be added "and which can be molded without reaction by products under only sufficient presssure to flow and compact the material"*. If the word "mixing" in the above is changed to "manufacture" the definition can apply equally to sheet molding compound. The principal differences between premix and SMC are in the manufacturing methods and in the form in which they reach the molder. Each can be formulated of the same basic ingredients. The process of plastically deforming metal by passing it between rolls is know as rolling. This is the most widely used metal working process because it tends itself to high production and close control of the final product. ANTI SCALE COMPOUND FOR ADDING IN SUGAR BOILERS

Scaling, corrosion and carry over must be eliminated or controlled. The six items contained in the boiler water listed earlier are now examined in the more detail. Hardness in water is caused by dissolved salts of calcium and magnesium, suchh as the bicarbonates, sulphates and chlorides. The scale will insulate the heating surfaces from the cooling effect of the water and over-heating will occur. Over-heating can soften the metal so that, in the case of a furnace tube, it can collapse under the pressure of the steam with explosive force. This will endager any one in the vicinity and can cause extensive damage to plant and buildings. In a less dramatic way, scale build-up can cause extensive damage build-up can cause tube-end leakage, where smoke tubes are expanded into the end plates of the boiler, requiring expensive replacement and possible loss sof production. STREETLIGHT FITTING

(INDOOR & OUTDOOR) & CFL LAMP

Street light fitting (Indoor & outdoor) is pricisely used by Govt Department i.e. Electricity Board, Development Authorities and rate contractors, etc. The fluorescent lamp is also a gaseous discharge lamp, the ‘gas’ being actually mercury vapour at low pressure. A large part of the light emitted by this discharge, however, falls in ultra-violet part of the spectrum and thus invisible; apart of this glass will not transmit ultra-violet rays to any extent. So that very little passes through the outside of the envelope. In order to arrive at a really efficient and economical source of light, the principle of fluorescence was introduced; by fluorescence is meant the phenomenon arising from the capacity of certain substances for absorbing short-wave radiations and re-emitting them as radiations of a longer wavelength. If for convenience we refer to the emissions just beyond the red and blue extremities of the spectrum by somewhat paradoxical term "invisible light. DEHYDRATION OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES BY IQF TECHNOLOGY

It was claimed in 1968 that there were 2823 types of frozen foods, including 639 types of frozen vegetables, 446 frozen deserts, and 448 types of frozen sea-food . It is further stated that 58% of the volume of frozen foods is fruit juices and vegetables. It is also said that forgen soups account for 11.4% and baked goods for 10.1%. Before freezing, it is necessary to blanch the product to destroyenzymes, which would result in off-flavors and consequent quality deterioration. Rapid freezing is important, since just as with ice cream, it results in a smoother product having smaller ice crystals and a more natural body and texture. BRA, PANTY AND SOCKS

By the end of 1909, a designer called Paul Poiret designed the first ever women’s brassiere. This undergarment was a shock for the times because it not only separated the breasts but (horror of horrors) pushed them upwards to firm prominence. And if the scandal of the brassiere was not enough, Poiret pushed his luck further by abandoning the correct altogether on his models. While the church went blue condemning this indecency, women silently enjoyed the freedom the corset without loosing the upward form of the breasts. SCIENTIFIC & LABORATORY EQUIPMENTS

Although the modern construction methods have significantly reduced the risk of a building burning down to the ground, any fire can cause considerable damage. Since fire prevention is a matter of interest for all of us. Since almost any fire is marked by a lot of (suffocating) smoke, most fire detectors are based on the principle of smoke detection. Basically, two types of smoke detector exist; types with a radio active sensor, and types with an optical sensor. The later is taken up for consideration here, since it is reliable and safe. Smoke sensors with a radio active isotope are less suitable, we feel for use in a circuit for construction of buildings since they are difficult to obtain, and require special handling precautions. ETHANOL (BIOFUEL)

FROM MOLASSES

Commonly called alcohol has been described as one of the most exotic oxygen containing organic chemicals known because of itsunique properties as solvent, beverage, combustible liquid, germicide and as building block or chemical intermediate for a host of organic chemicals. As a beverage it has been produced and utilized unknowingly as early as 4000 years ago by Pharaohs in Egypt. In India ethyl alcohol has been conventionally and economically produced by fermentation of a byproduct of sugar industry i.e. molasses. Although ethyl alcohol can also be produced from other carbohydrate containing materials by fermentation such as sugar, casava(tapioca), rice, wheat, barley and other grains, the economics led to its production from molasses, because of its easy availability at a low price. Be that as it may, the first evidence we have of cloth being used is during neouthic age (6000 years ago) when we find that the strands of animal and vegetable fibre were made into thread by twisting by hand, the thread plaited together and then woven into a simple pit-loom into cloth. Dairy technology has been defined as that branch of dairy science which deals with the processing of milk and the manufacture of milk products on an industrial scale. In developed dairying countries such as the U.S.A., the year 1850 is seen as the dwiding line between form and factory scale production. Various factors contributed to this change in these countries, viz concentration of population in cities where jobs were plentiful, rapid industrialisation, improvement of transportation facilities, development of machines etc, whereas the rural areas were identified for milk production, the urban centres were selected for the location of milk processing plants and product manufacturing factories. Catalysis is the key to the greatly expanded modern chemical and petroleum industries. About 90% of chemical manufacturing processes are catalytic, corrosponding to 15-20% of all manufactured goods. Sulfuric acid, ammonia, audible oils, aromatic hydrocarbons, butadiene, cyclohexane, vinyl acetate, acetaldehyde, acetic acid, alcohols, acrylonitrile, and synthetic rubber and plastics are now produced almost completely by catalytic processes. Likewise, petroleum refining, providing by far the largest volume of industrial products, now consists almost entirely of a series of catalytic processes, such as cracking, reforming, desulfurization, isomerization, polymerization, and alkylation.
