WAX COATED MATCH BOXES

Match is a splint of wood, cardboard, or other material provided with a combustible tip which ignits by friction, widely used for obtaining fire. The development of the safety match followed soon after the discovery of red phosphorous in 1845. The ingredients for combustion are distributed between the match head and the striking surface, usually painted on the container & the match is uneffective without the container. When stuck against the prepared surface, the heat produced by the ignition of the minute amount of red phosphorous is sufficient to ignite the match head. The wood or cardboard splint is coated with paraffin to sustain a steady flame and it is impregnated with ammonium phosphate or boric acid to arrest after glow. Other than coal, we must also find alternate resources of energy centred around solar, wind, tidal and bio-gas. An effective bio-gas programme leads to efficient use of cow dung for gas recovery and partial supplement to plant nutrient requirement. Bio-gas programme leads to improvement in rural living including rural sanitation. SPINNING COTTON

No one really knows for certain when man took weaving cloths. It is know Adam and Eve knew of their nakedness when they had eaten the fruit of knowledge. They then made approus of fig leaves to cover their nudity. Be that as it may, the first evidence we have of cloth being used is during neolithic age (6000 years ago) when we find that the strands of animal and vegetable fibre were made into thread by twisting by hand, the thread plaited together and then woven into a simple pit-loom into cloth. Fragment of such plaited cloth have been found in Switzerland. In India, perhaps, it happened likewise but we have nothing on record. According to the sacred texts of the Vedas the basic apparel continued to comprise of Antaria (lower garment) and Uttaria (upper garment) both unstitched but in addition men and woman began to a kayaband (sash) to hold up Antaria. Product quality comes first of all, then comes the economy. If we have a product of low quality but within certain specification as laid down and if this product is well packed and well presented, there is 100% possibility of its selling better compared to a product of very high quality but with a poor packing, and hence which has a less appeal to the eyes. WETTABLE SULPHUR

The earliest fungicides were inorganic materials like sulphur, lime-sulphur, copper, and mercury compounds. Elemental sulphur has been recognized as fungicidal for at least 170 years. Hence, in 1803, the Royal Gardener Forsyth recommended the use of a sulphur spray against mildew on fruit trees. In the nineteenth century sulphur was increasingly employed against powdery mildew on fruit and later for control of powdery mildew on grapes. It may be applied as dusts or sprays, and the more finely divided the sulphur, the more effective is the formulation against the disease. AMMONIA GAS BOTTLING PLANT

Ammonia is a colourless alkaline gas, lighter than air and possesses a unique penetrating odour. Today the primary use of ammonia is as the nitrogen source in fertilizers. Until the turn of this century, the nitrogen supply in farm soils was entirely dependent upon natural sources of nitrogen, mainly mineral deposits and animal and vegetable wastes. Most of these were from industries other than agriculture eg. animal manures, seed meals fish scraps, packing house wastes, sewage sludges, leather scraps, dried blood and ammonia sulphate from the coking coal. Today ammonia is primarily produced by direct synthesis of hydrogen and nitrogen. The mfg. technology stems from the Haber Bosch process of synthesizing ammonia, commercialized first in 1913. OPTICAL WHITENERS

All types of textile fibres, natural or synthetic, do not appear perfectly white but exhibit a yellow tinge because of the presence of certain coloured impurities which absorb some of the incident light in the blue end of the spectrum. Three methods are available to remove the yellow tinge. The first one is the destruction of the colouring matter by bleaching agents. This method is invariably used to remove most of the colouring impurities from the fibre but it is not possible to eliminate totally the slight yellowish tinge without degradation of the fibre itself. The second method employs the use of blueing agents on the bleached fabric. These agents correct the yellowness of the fabric by absorption of yellowness of the fabric by absorption of yellow light by the applied blue pigment. In this case the yellowish white fabric acquires a greyish white appearance. Report Cost: Rupees Six Thousand Only or US$ 350/- OR Exausted Detailed Project Report Cost Rs. 10,000/- only with CD.

BARREL FINISHING COMPOUND

Barrel rolling is defined as a relatively slow operation imparting friction by meaqns of a steady relative movement of a mass of parts with or without added media under such conditions that impact within the mass is reduced to a minimum, preferably zero. Abrasive barrel finishing merely indicates the presence of abrasive material such as aluminium oxide within the mass. Abrasive burnishing, another similar term, is actually barrel finishing with abrasive media, the prime purpose of which is the production of "colour" or brightness in combination with smoothness. A true burnishing operaiton, as the name infers, is one in which metal is not removed but instead is flowed and surface-worked with a burnishing tool or with burnishing media of a nonabrasive substance in a barrel. There is still some doubt as to the quality of clinker produced in these plants. The six units so far setup have yet to establish their commercial viability. Nevertheless the Cement Research Institute of India which possesses the known-how for manufacturing these plants, is hopeful of setting up some 200 such plants around the country. The history of the soap making industry is unknown and one can not attribute specially the origin of its development. Initially when the so called ‘man made’ cleansing and washing agents were unknown or their developments were not fully matured, the naturally occurring ‘chile salt peter’ i.e. nitrates of sodium and potassium were used as the washing or cleaning agents. Later on with the upsurge of some scientific knowledge, the soap industry came into being which employed the naturally occurring animal fatty oil but due to the limited resources of it, it had to be abandoned and shift to the use of vegetable oils were undertaken. HARD GELATIN CAPSULES

Gelatin capsule was first invented in 1834 by Mothes, a French pharmacy student in collaboration with a French pharmacist Dublanc. They used one piece olive shaped structures which had to be sealed after filling with a drop of concentrated gelatin solution and were counterparts of the modern day soft gelatin capsules. The inventors used the capsules to mask the tastes of obnoxious materials. Mothes first sold empty shells but later supplied only filled ones. As such other inventors tried to appear on the scene to overcome the patent of Mothes. Lehuby in 1846 invented a two piece structure which was identical with the present day hard gelatin capsules. He called them ‘mes enveloppes medicamenteuse’ or medicinal envelopes. the first British patent was granted to Murdoch in 1948 who was Lehuby’s agent. CHICKEN PROCESSING WITH SLAUGHTER HOUSE

Poultry farms are increasing steadily. Many government agencies are encouraging poultry farming and even short term training courses are organised regularly. Such farms have generated considerable employment opportunities in semi urban and rural areas. Marketing of poultry birds is expensive and death of birds during transit is the main bottleneck. This compels most of the poultry farms to concentrate on nearby markets even if it means less prices. Instead, if these birds are processed after dressing and packed in tins then transportation is easier, shelf life of the product goes up and the product is more hygienic. DEHYDRATION OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES BY

IQF TECHNOLOGY

It was claimed in 1968 that there were 2823 types of frozen foods, including 639 types of frozen vegetables, 446 frozen deserts, and 448 types of frozen sea-food . It is further stated that 58% of the volume of frozen foods is fruit juices and vegetables. It is also said that forgen soups account for 11.4% and baked goods for 10.1%. Before freezing, it is necessary to blanch the product to destroyenzymes, which would result in off-flavors and consequent quality deterioration. Rapid freezing is important, since just as with ice cream, it results in a smoother product having smaller ice crystals and a more natural body and texture. MILK PROCESSING PLANT (TONED/DOUBLE TONED MILK, CREAM, BUTTER MILK, BUTTER CREAM, KHOYA, BUTTER, PANEER, GHEE)

A dairy is a place for handling milk and milk products. Technology refers to the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. Dairy technology has been defined as that branch of dairy science which deals with the processing of milk and the manufacture of milk products on an industrial scale. In developed dairying countries such as the U.S.A., the year 1850 is seen as the dwiding line between form and factory scale production. Various factors contributed to this change in these countries, viz concentration of population in cities where jobs were plentiful, rapid industrialisation, improvement of transportation facilities, development of machines etc, whereas the rural areas were identified for milk production, the urban centres were selected for the location of milk processing plants and product manufacturing factories. CALCIUM STEARATE

BY FUSION PROCESS

Calcium stearate can be used as a stabiliser in its own right, or as a lubricating co-stabiliser (with synergistic effetcs in some cases) in conjunction with other stabilisers, such as organotin and antimony compounds (e.g., in rigid pipe compositions of the American kind). Whilst it is not a highly powerful stabiliser, calcium stearate has a reasonable heat-stabilising action, although with relatively little light-stabilising effect. It is useful with emulsion-type PVC polymers and finds use in certain paste formulations (especially in UK).
