      Copper sulphate is known to be an inorganic compound that much combines copper and sulphate. When it is in powdered or liquid form, it is called CP basic sulphate, BSC copper fungicide, basic copper sulphate or tri-basic copper sulphate. It is a blue colored stone which is crystal shaped in structure. It is a popular raw material that is used in manufacturing or production of various copper salts. We shall hereby cover the potential benefits, side effects, dosage as well as interactions associated with the potential use of copper sulphate. 

There are various health benefits associated with copper sulphate. It controls the growth of fungi and bacteria on fruits, vegetables and various other crops. Copper sulphate is known to bind much to proteins in fungus, thereby damaging the cells and causing them to die. Copper sulphate works as a protective fungicide when combined with lime and water – and is called the Bordeaux mixture. It is used to protect the plants during seed treatment as and when they grow or before they grow. 

Copper sulphate is used as a molluscicide in tropical climate. It is also a kind of snail bait that controls pests like slugs and snails from damaging crops and plants. Copper sulphate is also used for safety and public health. It is known to destroy algae and bacteria which are much prevalent in the infected swimming pools . 

There are various side effects associated with the use of copper sulphate. Agricultural crops are known to be cleaned after being treated much with copper sulphate which is then also used for farming and gardening purposes. When copper sulphate is absorbed through skin or eyes, it may cause stinging or burning sensation – which in turn could led to fluid buildup, cornea irritation, eczema, inflammation, conjunctivitis – when exposed to the eyes. When copper sulphate is consumed much and the individual oes not land up vomiting, then he/she could be at a risk of copper sulphate poisoning. 

There are various signs associated with copper sulphate poisoning such as – nausea, headache, metallic taste in mouth, burning sensation in the chest / abdomen, excessive sweating, and much more. Research indicates that children might be more sensitive to copper sulphate than adults. When copper sulphate is used, it is advisable to use googles, gloves and boots – so as to minimize the risk for ingestion or exposure. 

When copper sulphate is used excessively in the treatment of plants, it could disrupt the process of photosynthesis, harming vegetation. It is important to follow the directions so that the ecosystems are not harmed in any way.  Copper sulphate is used as a fungicide, herbicide, algaecide, root-killer for agricultural as well as non-agricultural settings. It i also used as a molluscicide as mentioned before. Copper sulphate is much used as an industry agent and as a raw material for the production of copper salts. There are hundreds of manufacturers of copper sulphate and it is estimated that most of the manufacturers sell this ingredient as a fungicide. It is also used for the treatment of copper deficient soils.
