Soy is an extensively known legume of Asian origin. Many vegetarian people use soy as a source of protein to replace meat. There are various benefits and risks that are associated with consumption of soy so as to replace the consumption of meat. There are various benefits and risks associated with consumption of soy and we shall discuss it herewith. Many producers have genetically modified this plant so that it could be used in the best possible manner. 

The main by products of Soy are – Soy milk, flavoured milk, curd, yogurt, tofu, soybeans and okaara.  These products are all rich in protein and have a lot of nutritional value. Soybeans are especially very healthy and nutritional and are rich in protein. Most people consume soybeans as supplements and consume it as milk alternatives. Manufacturers of soy products are known to extract oil from soy and use it as an ecological fuel. 

Soybeans come in many colors such as – green soybeans, yellow soybeans as well as black soybeans. Soy milk and cheese are also very good options to replace dairy products in daily diet. Soy oil is a very essential product that is used as a cooking ingredient. When oil is extracted well from soybeans, people use the extract to make food for pets and farm animals. 

Many manufacturers make various types of supplements (isoflavone) as well as protein powder from soy. Some other products of soy include soy nuts, tempen, tofu, edamame, soy milk, cooked soybeans, and much more. All these products contain a lot of protein as well as amino acids. Soy products are an essential source of protein for all people who consume vegetarian diet. 

It needs to be noted well that soybeans are very high in protein, folate and vitamin C and low in saturated fat. Soy products are also a very good source of phosphorus, potassium, thiamine, magnesium, calcium and iron. The nutritional content of all products that re manufactured using soy depends much upon how these are processed and which ingredients have been added to them. 

All soy products mostly are known to have good cholesterol which help in lowering the risk of occurrence of heart disease. Research studies indicate that consumption of soy significantly reduces the levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL) in the arteries, and few more factors. The consumption of soy products is known to reduce the occurrence of breast cancer, reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, treat osteoporosis, and may more diseases. 

There are some rising concerns about the consumption of soy. The intake of soy may interfere with the thyroid function. The consumption of soy is very safe and does not pose any kind of health risks. Moderate amount of soy products must always be included in healthy diet, so that the health benefits shall always be there. Products such as soy milk, flavoured milk, curd, yogurt and tofu are very good for heath and are advised to be consumed very regularly.
