Wire rods are important semi-finished steel products used as raw materials for manufacturing a wide range of wire and wire-based industrial products. They are used in applications including fasteners, bolts, rivets, screws, general-purpose wires, electrode and industrial wires, agricultural wires, bush and chain rivet wires, umbrella ribs, upholstery wires, cycle spokes, needle wires, heald wires, staple and safety pin wires, ACSR and earth wires, and tyre and hose reinforcement wires.
Wire rods are also used for producing pre-stressed concrete wire, spring and rope wires, card clothing wires, vineyard wires and ball-bearing-quality products. Automobile applications include screws, fasteners, bushes, splines, sockets, connecting rods, shafts, gears and rivets. Carbon steel wire rods are manufactured in different grades and specifications according to required mechanical properties and applicable standards.
The manufacturing process generally involves reheating and rolling operations, including roughing, intermediate and finishing mills, followed by appropriate handling and cooling arrangements.
