They form the core of all the mountain chain of the world and the foundation  of  all  its great ancient plain. The  rocks  of  the Archaean  system  cover several hundred  thousand  kilometers  in India.  By  far  the  largest part of  the  peninsular  India  is occupied by this ancient crystalline complex. The Archacan system includes  Dharwars,  Charnockites,  Bundelkhand  greiss,   banded greissic complex, older metamorphics, and basement complex.  They occupy  wide areas in Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya  Pradesh, Rajasthan,  Gujarat, Maharashtra and Orissa besides the  southern states  of Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh Kerala,  Tamilnadu  and Pandichery.
