Detailed Project Report (DPR) on dicalcium phosphate from rock phosphate and haifa process

Rock phosphate is the source from which dicalcium phosphate can be manufactured. It finds applicability as a fertilizer. The phosphours pentoxide content ranges around 41-42% in the dihydrate form.  The trade mark for a dentrifice grade  dicalcium phosphate dihydrate is captioned as "Dicalcium phosphate victor". It is CaHPO4.2H2O plus additive. FCC grade, Which is used as polishing agent in dentrifices. In  the  shallow,  medium and  deep-black  soils  having  the carbonate  content from 3 to 6 %, the available  phosphorous  was highest  at 60 days when superphosphate was applied,  whereas  in the alluvial soil containing 1% carbonate , the highest available phosphorous  was observed at 60 days when the fertilizer  applied was dicalcium phosphate. Dicalcium phosphate proved as effective as superphosphate  on alluvial,coastal  alluvial,  red  and  laterite  soils,  but  was inferior on medium-black and deltaic saline soils. Non  granulated dicalcium phosphate appears to be an acceptable  phosphate source for rice on soil other than medium black and deltaic saline. for up land cereals the limited avilable  data indicate that some water soluble phosphate  is necessary along  with dicalcium phosphate.  For  grain  legumes, however, diacalcium phosphate does not seem to be a good  source on alluvial, medium-black and mixed red and black soils. It  may be mentioned that superphosphate supplied  more  calcium and additionally  sulphur, which could be critical for grain  lequmes in some soils. the basic raw material for this product being rock phosphate. It is found as a geological deposit on a large scale in  some countiers,  like  the USA, the USSR, Australia  Morocco,  Jordon. Tunisa,  Egypt,Israel  and  Peru. Although  the  first  phosphate fertilizer  plant  in  India went into  production  in  1906,  an earnest search for deposits  of rock phosphate within the country was made only during the last decade, the richest deposits being discoverd in Udaipur (Rajasthan)  in march 1966. phosphatic rocks are  now  reported  to occurs in Andhra pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Himanchal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, orissa,   Rajasthan, Tamilnadu and utter pradesh (Fai ,New Delhi, 1972s).The  deposit in  Andhra Pradesh (Kasipatnam) are in the form of pegmatite veins, which contain apatita, magnetite and vrmiculate ,and the Geological survey of India estimates the deposit to be around 170000 tonnes. In Assam (Garu Hills) and Tamilnadu (Tiruchirapalli) phosphate deposit occur as nodules in calcareous shales  or  cretaceous beds, and in south arcot  (Tamilnadu)  and Pondicherry  these  occur as phosphateised molluscan  shells.  In Uttar pradesh ,Dehradun and Tehri , generally known as  Mussoride deposit  and  in Himanchal pradesh (Mahasu,Daral  and  saloni)the deposit  are   phosphoric (the manu  mineral  being  collophane), which  may be granular, nodular, lenticular, platy  or  pelletal. the  estimated  reserves in Uttar pradesh are about 17  million tonnes.  The apatito reserves in Bihar (singhbhum) are  estimated to be 1 million tonnes. In Rajasthan(Udaipure and Jasialmer)  the total  exploitable reserves are estimated to be over 100  million tonnes, of which 40% are high grade spatite.
