The term putty is very popular for home decoration. It provides a very strong and durable foundation for paints and brings out the rich look. It is specially formulated for filling dents, hair cracks, levelling surface imperfections due to plaster, prevent dampness, efflorescence etc. There are various types of putty available in market. Originally only Plaster of Paris was used. Now readymade putties are available and are manufactured by reputed manufacturer like Birla White Putty, JK Wall Putty, Minar Wall Putty and so on. They all have different properties and different purposes. Hence, here we give you a brief comparison of all these putties to help you make the right choice.

Wall putty is a white fine powdered substance that is used to provide smooth base to the wall surface. It provides smooth damp finish and it allows all types of colours to be applicable over the walls. It is applied on the walls and ceilings prior to priming and painting. Wall putty also takes care of the expensive paint that you use over the walls and ensure its stability and durability.

Wall putty is one of the most important constituents in the painting process. Application of wall putty prior to painting process ensures smooth finish as putty grants ideal base to the walls for further application of all kinds of paints.

Glass Fibre Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG) Panel System is an alternate construction system and has potential to be a viable solution for affordable mass housing BMTPC along with IIT Madras has been promoting the technology for affordable housing projects.  

Being gypsum-based product, there are lot of queries regarding water proofing treatment of the system despite of the fact that GFRG absorb less than  percent of water after immersing in water for  hours. Some institutions have been building with large building panels for walling and floor/roof require water proofing treatment to be carried out at the time of construction and prior to pouring of concrete as part of construction. Therefore, it was felt apt that a publication on water proofing solution may be brought out.

The waterproofing solution provided in the publication is based on indigenously produced nanotechnology. This is possible through indigenous production, avoiding the importing of products persons
