Silica Ramming Mass is a refractory material made from graded quartz or quartzite aggregates combined with suitable binder chemicals. It is widely used as a dry lining material for induction furnaces in iron and steel plants, foundries, and mini steel plants. The material is supplied in a consistency suitable for mechanical application and may include plasticizing agents depending on customer requirements.
Ramming mass offers excellent thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance due to its lower binder, fire clay, and moisture content compared with conventional plastic refractories. It is recommended for coreless induction furnace linings and can be supplied as plain or premixed grades according to application specifications. The material provides reliable performance at high operating temperatures and is suitable for applications requiring resistance to thermal shock.
Silica ramming mass is manufactured through crushing and grading of high-purity quartzite. Maintaining raw material purity is essential because impurities can create unpredictable liquid phases at elevated temperatures, reducing the chemical and mechanical strength of the furnace lining. High-quality silica improves lining life and ensures uniform physical properties, making it a cost-effective refractory solution compared with alternatives such as alumina and magnesia.
