    It needs to be understood well that the packaging industry plays a very crucial role as it is related to various industries such as FMCG, agriculture, pharma, retail. This market is growing and evolving since a very long time. According to experts, this industry is growing at a fast pace and is one of the most attractive emerging market for the best of investment. 

    The packaging industry in India is growing and thus the sector is becoming very interesting for producers as well as investors. Flexible packaging is on the growth path. This sector is known to be interrelated with many industries such as pharmaceuticals as well as food processing. Thus, the overall growth significantly impacts the packaging industry to a great extent. It needs to be well noted that packaging industry uses various core products such as bottling, labels, beverage cans, bottles, foils, blisters, cartons, bags, plastic bottles, tin cans, boxes, barrel, crates, aseptic containers, flexible boards, paper tapes, glass, and many more items. 

    It needs to be well noted that India sees many growth drivers in the case of consumer packaged foods. There has been solid demand in the market with regards to the food as well as pharma industries. The growth of this segment is rising due to changing lifestyles as well as increase in income levels. Also, it needs to be well noted that the FMCG (Fast-Moving-Consumer-Goods) sector represents the largest opportunity for flexible packaging. 

    The future of packaging industry needs to be well understood in India. It is well researched that the packaging is the fifth largest sector in the economy of India and is one of the highest growing sectors in the country. In India, let us just segregate the packaging industry into the following: 

    1. Pharmaceutical packaging: This packaging industry has said to double within a decade. India is currently producing high quantities of pharmaceutical packaging. Various MNCs such as SGD Pharma, West Pharma, Amcor, Huhtamaki along with different Indian companies such as EsselPropack and Uflex lead the pharma packaging market. 

    2. Retail packaging: It needs to be well noted and understood that the retail packaging ecommerce sector has evolved much in India. It grows at an annual rate of 51% as per the ASSOCHAM-Forrester report. The ecommerce packaging market of India faces a high demand for rigid packaging such as cartons as well as corrugated boxes. The rigid packaging makes up to 80% of the overall market of packaging in the country. 

    3. Food and beverage packaging: Recently, in India, there has been packaging growth in a sustainable way due to awareness in packaging and food consumption. The awareness in this domain relates much to packaged food as well as food deliveries. In India, materials such as glass and rigid plastics are used well and the best of materials (discussed before) for packaging purposes are well used. There is increased demand of packaging cartons as their shelf life is longer and they depict much ease in transportation, Thus, it is very important to take care of all these aspects while studying the food packaging industry,
